Looking at the music of Dutch rock band Focus, started in the late sixties by Thijs van Leer (b /31/03/48) with Jan Akkerman (b 24/12/46). Van Leer still performs and records under the name today (official site here). Akkerman's site here.

A former milking parlour, it closed as a studio 1972

Olympic Studios

Built as a public hall 1906, it became a studio in the sixties and has recently closed down.

Chipping Norton

Grade II listed, the former school was opened as a studio in the market town shown 1972 by Richard and Mike Vernon, closing 1999 and now used as housing

Hilversum

Hilversum, the Netherlands, is home to several studios including the one owned by EMI and Wisseloord Studios above

Fieldwork is in Belgium

Studio Spitsbergen

Opened in 1979, Studio Spitsbergen is based near Zuidbroek in Northern Holland

Rainbow Theatre

Once a cinema (1930-71) now a church, it became a major rock venue (1971-82), its auditorium inspired the Focus album cover

New Victoria (Apollo)

Grade II listed, it's in Wilton Rd, Victoria, London is very large and was a cinema 1930-75, becoming a theatre 1990

Patriots Theater

Seating 1,807, the Patriots Theater is near the War Memorial in Trenton, and is part of the State of New Jersey's Capitol complex
